“Water Lily Aglow” by David Foster

David discovered his serious interest in photography over 40 years ago while working as a darkroom assistant in an Upward Bound program.   He then immersed himself in the world of 35mm B&W, with a home darkroom for several years.  Many of those 40+ years, however, were focused on his family and his careers in not-for-profit agencies and higher education.  He and his wife, Jenny, have two grown sons and live in Decatur, GA.

His passion for nature photography reemerged in 2003 when advances in digital technology finally allowed him to pursue his artistic interests without a darkroom.  David began exhibiting and selling his work in 2006, while living in western Massachusetts.  His first solo exhibit after moving to metro Atlanta was at the Decatur Library in 2008. Since then, his images have been part of more than three dozen solo, juried and group exhibitions in the Southeast. His image, “Jekyll Island Dawn,” was chosen as part of the opening exhibit for the new International Terminal at the Atlanta Airport in 2012.  His image “Poppy” was selected for the 2012 Gardens in Focus exhibit at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, Australia.

His images have earned a number of awards from the Georgia Nature Photographers Association, the Southeastern Flower Show, and the annual Nature Undisturbed exhibit.  He was the Artist in Residence at Cheraw State Park (SC) in 2011.   He is an active member of the Georgia Nature Photographers Association, serving as a member of its Board.  David’s work can be found at www.davidfosterimages.net.
